Peter Shulman Explains America's Energy Independence
Great Lakes Energy Institute Advisory Board Member and Case Western Reserve University Associate Professor of History Peter Shulman discussed the history of America's effort to become "energy independent," and the evolving political context of the phrase during an interview with Ben Jervey of The Daily Good.
The article explains that, despite consistent campaign rhetoric that has continued to the present day claiming America needs to become energy independent, America has already nearly achieved energy independence. Shulman explains, "Its a very different problem now... We have a strategic petroleum reserve, we have a lot of domestic production today, we have efficiency standards. We have much more diversified portfolio of fuels. We didn't have any of those things in the '70s."
