About

A research-intensive culture

We engineer to help make a better world. From advances in human health to making our world more sustainable to harnessing big data in smart and secure ways, we conduct research on the leading edge. Dive into our research strengths >>

Hands-on learning

From our accredited co-op program (which allows students to earn an average salary of $20,000 over a seven-month period) to summer internships to more than a dozen design courses offered the very first semester, to working in faculty labs on cutting-edge research to our inventor’s playground, Sears think[box], which provides everything needed to move from idea to product, we place a high value on experiential learning.

A history of firsts

For more than 140 years, we’ve been at the forefront of history and innovation—from the first computer science degree to the first stand-alone polymer department. Explore our history of firsts >>

A powerful alumni network

With more than 20,000 alumni in more than 70 countries, our graduates are leaders of their fields the world over. Tap into our powerful global network >>

Strong connections with industry

Whether its collaborating on research to move fields forward, troubleshooting design challenges to move products to market faster, or matching our students with leading institutions for co-ops, internships or employment, we maintain deep ties with some of the world’s largest engineering and science firms—and some of the smallest (but most promising) startups. Cleveland rocks

Cleveland is the place to engineer. Our location is one of our strongest assets. With a population of about 2 million people, situated within 500 miles (800 km) of almost half the U.S. population, Cleveland is a global hub for technology, manufacturing and health care. Case Western Reserve sits in the heart of it all: within University Circle (voted Best Arts District in the country by USA Today)—a one-mile square block with world-class cultural institutions, entertainment, sports, industry, parks and more.
