Abhishek Daundkar was selected for this year’s Callahan Fellowship, a $5,000 award for “the most promising and academically qualified PhD applicants to the Case School of Engineering."

Daundkar earned both his B.S. in mechanical engineering and his M.S. in mathematical modeling and computational simulation from University of Pune in India, but always had an interest in metallurgy. After participating in engineering competitions during his undergraduate studies, he felt a strong urge to learn more about materials and their interactions. He is primarily interested in the complex chemical composition of materials resulting from various manufacturing techniques.

Originally from Nasik, Maharashtra, India, Daundkar was attracted to Case Western Reserve University for his PhD studies because of the resources available to students, the quality of work and the faculty. He appreciates the lab infrastructure on the CWRU campus, the friendly student body and the variety of facilities available. He praised his advisor, Associate Professor Alp Sehirlioglu, for being “very kind to me by going out of his way to assist me in every possible way.”
