Biomedical engineering researchers awarded patents
Researchers in the Department of Biomedical Engineering were recently awarded patents related to their work at the Center for Computational Imaging and Personalized Diagnostics. The following patents were awarded.
“Predicting biochemical recurrence in pre-treatment prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with field effect induced organ distension (FORGE)”
Anant Madabhushi, the F. Alex Nason Professor II of Biomedical Engineering, and Soumya Ghose, senior research associate, were awarded the patent, which involves employing a storage device to access images of a region of lung tissue.
“Predicting immunotherapy response in non-small cell lung cancer with serial radiomics”
Madabhushi and collaborators Yuanqi Xie and Vamsidhar Velchet’s invention involves predicting a tissue region’s response to immunotherapy based on pre-treatment and post-treatment images. This award marked Madabhushi’s 50th patent.
“Quantifying mass effect deformation with structural radiomics in brain tumor patients”
Pallavi Tiwari, an assistant professor, and Madabhushi, and their collaborator Jhimli Mitra were awarded the patent creating methods and an apparatus to quantify mass effect deformation in diagnostic images of patients who demonstrated glioblastoma multiforme, or GBM.
Gavin Hanson, a MD/PhD student who passed away in 2018, was also a collaborator on this patent.
